For his latest Virtual Choir outing, Whiteacre lured nearly 6000 people from 101 countries all over the globe to send him video of themselves singing airy tunes composed by him. A few of them were picked to play solo parts but for the most part his mass harmonies are created from the sound of thousands of people at home alone, singing in front of screens in living rooms, bathrooms or even tucked away in the closet so as to get the best sound and contribute to an awesome project.
Then Eric's team of editors and animators got to work to turn the whole thing into one soaring choral piece. Who'd have thought it possible just a few years ago - that tecnology could be used to get a world-wide choir singing along together without a single one of them having to step on an aircraft.
Check out the windows of the 'buildings' containing teeny-tiny thumbnails of some of the contributors involved in the 'performance'. Singers' chances of spotting themselves are slight but still, what fun to have taken part and to know that your voice is somewhere in there.
